HISTORY
The Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools Library Network
(MASTSLiNet) was formed at its Founding Congress held on October 25,
2014, at Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology
(DOSCST) now Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), Mati, Davao Oriental at the instance of the University of the
Philippines Mindanao, Davao City.
Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools envisions networking
state university and college (SUC) libraries in the island of Mindanao,
Philippines. Currently, the 29 academic libraries have a combined
resource of almost 500 thousand books, journals, and audio-visual
materials accessible through different web portals, while the rest are
in the process of migrating to electronic systems. The network’s
establishment has changed all these, and ongoing development plans
redirected into just one vision, One VAM, or, One Vision, One Access,
One Mindanao. One VAM will allow global users to access resources at
these libraries in just one click of a mouse.
Documents passed at its successive general assemblies have accelerated
in fulfilling this vision. The Covenant will promote the establishment,
development, enhancement, and effective utilization of academic
libraries as they support the instruction, research, extension and
production agenda of parent institutions. Co-opted in the covenant for
financial and administrative support both at the local and national
levels are the National Government of the Republic of the Philippines,
the Commission on Higher Education, the University of the Philippines
System, and the Department of Science and Technology for networking,
databases, information and communications technology, and other
information management systems.
